How to play Teen Patti

Teen Patti is a poker-type card game without hole cards or other community cards where you are playing against other players or, in an Indian online casino setting, a dealer.

  1. Step 1: Buy in to the game round by placing your bet to the initial pot. Placing a Teen Patti bet is called “placing an Ante”, and it is similar to paying an entry fee. All entered players are dealt three face down cards once everyone has placed their initial bet.
  2. Step 2: Decide if you want to look at your cards or play without looking at them. This is called playing “Seen” or “Blind”. Looking at your cards has its advantages, but also requires you to place a new bet of at least twice the Ante. A player playing Blind only has to place a bet the same size as the Ante to proceed to the next part of the game.
  3. Step 3: Moving clockwise from the dealer, players bet or fold. Seen players are required to keep placing bets double the Ante, while Blind players keep betting the size of the Ante. Players who have a weak hand or do not wish to bet more will have to fold their hands.
  4. Step 4: Once only two players are left, they have the ability to pay to “show”. This action requires both players to reveal their hands, and the player with the higher ranking hand wins. If all players fold except one, the last standing player wins.

Teen Patti Terminology

Gain confidence at the table by knowing some Teen Patti terminology! Understanding what each part of the game is called makes it easier to plan your course of action, and with these terms, you’ll have no problem striking up conversations with other players at the table.

Ante/Boot

The Ante is the initial bet you place to be allowed to participate in the game. All player’s Antes are pooled together in the Boot, also known as the Pot in other types of poker. Then the game begins and it is time to start playing!

Playing “Blind”

Playing Blind means that you are playing the game without looking at your cards. In other words, you have no idea if the cards you are playing will be good or bad. While playing this way has the disadvantage of risking betting with a really bad hand, it has some perks also: Blind players are required to bet less, and if a Blind player is the last standing, they win!

Playing “Seen”

Playing Seen means looking at the three cards in your hand. By seeing the cards, it is easier to decide whether to stay in the game or fold the hand. That said, a Seen hand is more expensive to keep in the game, as Seen players are required to bet double the Ante with each bet.

Ante bet – The initial bet of each player. All players are required to place an Ante to qualify to participate in the game round.

Chaal

Chaal is the act of a player matching the current bet or raising it. It is a requirement to conduct Chaal to stay in the game. It also signals to the other players that you believe that you have a strong hand worthy to keep in play.

Show

A Show can happen once only two players remain in the game. If agreed, this is where each of the two reveal their hands. Now, both hands are fully visible to all players around the table, and we find out which of the two players has the strongest hand.

Bluff

Psychology is a big part of Teen Patti, and bluffing is part of that. Bluffing is the act of playing a bad hand as if it’s a good one. To other players, it will seem as if you are playing a strong hand. As a result, others might fold, leaving you as the final winner. But use caution; bluffing your way to the top of a Show will reveal your bluff!

Fold/Pack

Folding your cards means that you tap out of the current game round. After folding, you can’t play to win, and will not be asked to place more bets. Placing a new bet at the beginning of a new game round gets you back in the game.

Teen Patti name variations

Due to the popularity of this card game and its journey across the world, it has received a variety of names: 3 Patti, Teenpatthi, Teenpatti, Indian Poker, Flash, Flush, and Three Card Flush.

Teen Patti Rules

While the rules of Teen Patti online are slightly different to those of other casino games like Andar Bahar and Dragon Tiger, they can be learnt in minutes. To play Teen Patti, remember these simple rules:

  • Teen Patti is a social game played together and against other players. A game is ideally played with between 3 and 7 players, and the goal of the game is to be the player with the best hand.
  • A player needs to place an initial Ante bet to play, after which they are dealt their starting hand.
  • Players decide whether to look at their cards or not.
  • Players bet, taking turns clockwise, starting from the dealer’s left. Players playing Blind can place bets 1x or 2x the Ante, while seen players can place bets 2x or 4x the Ante.
  • The betting round continues until two players remain, where one of them can request a Show. At a Show, players reveal their hands and determine who has the weaker hand. The stronger hand wins the pot.

Teen Patti sequences

If you’ve ever played poker, you’ll recognise the hands in Teen Patti. More commonly known as sequences, a winning online Patti hand is made up of three cards following a specific pattern.

Below, you’ll see all paying hands in regular Flash. Keep in mind that any game variation may alter payouts or exchange some of them for other sequences.

Illustration of a teen patti Three of a Kind hand.

Three-of-a-Kind

Three cards of the same rank, and the highest ranking hand of the game, also known as Trio or Trail. A three-of-a-kind consisting of three ace cards is the best, while a triple of twos is the worst. The hand does not require cards to be of the same suit.

Illustration of a teen patti pure sequence hand.

Pure Sequence

Three consecutive cards of the same suit. Also known as a Pakki Round or Straight Flush. The most valuable Straight Flush is the A-2-3, followed by the A-K-Q. The sequence cannot “loop” values, meaning that a K-A-2 is not valid.

Illustration of a teen patti Straight hand.

Straight

Three consecutive cards of different suits. Also known as a “Normal Run”, “Run”, or simply “Sequence”. The best possible Straight is A-2-3. The worst possible Straight is 2-3-4.

Illustration of a teen patti Flush hand.

Flush

Three cards in the same suit. Also known as “Colour”. Should the same suit flush hands need comparing, the highest-valued suited hand wins. Alternative tiebreakers see hands compared card-by-card. Ensure you are aware of any specific tie rules for the table.

Illustration of a teen patti Pair hand.

Pair

Two of the three cards in the hand having the same rank. They don’t have to be suited. The best possible Pair hand is an A-A-K. If a tie occurs, it is the value of the remaining card that determines the winner.

Illustration of a teen patti High Card hand.

High Card

If no other sequence is made, it’s the highest-ranking card that will count for a potential win. Depending on the cards in the dealer’s hand, the second or third card will determine the final winner.

3 Patti winning odds

As you might’ve figured out, some hands are going to be easier to obtain than others.

The probability that you’ll get dealt a Pure Sequence or the highest ranking hand, for example, be a lot harder than being dealt two cards of the same rank.

Here, you’ll see all available hands, showing the odds of them appearing in your hand and how often the combination of three cards will appear out of all possible combinations (22,100 when played with a regular 52-card deck).

Hand Probability How often:
Pure Sequence 0.22% 48 out of 22,100
Three of a kind 0.24% 53 out of 22,100
Straight 3.26% 720 out of 22,100
Flush 4.96% 1096 out of 22,100
Pair 16.94% 3744 out of 22,100
High Card 74.39% 16,440 out of 22,100

SevenJackpots’ Teen Patti Game Tips

Want to up the Ante on your Teen Patti online gameplay and become a 3 Patti master? Then, you’ll want to read these tips carefully. While casino Teen Patti is a game of chance, the social version of the game allows for more skill. Playing your cards right can increase your chances of winning. As with any casino game, be mindful of how much money you are playing for, and ensure to take regular breaks.

Learn the hand sequences

One of the most valuable Teen Patti tips we can give you is to learn the values of the Teen Patti hands sequences. You want to know if your hand is valuable or not. This is especially important for players playing in the Seen position.

Start with small bets

Don’t go riding waves you aren’t ready for. When playing Teen Patti for real money, start by placing small bets. Remember that a Seen player needs to place bets twice the size of the initial bet. And unlike regular poker, Teen Patti doesn’t have a limited number of rounds. If you want to last until the end of a round, you better place smaller bets.

Bankroll management

Managing your bankroll goes hand in hand with bet sizes. Managing a bankroll while playing the Teen Patti game can include limiting the amount of money spent in a game round in total or the amount of bets one is allowed to place before a Fold.

Be patient

Patience is especially important in social Teen Patti games. When playing against other players, take your time to read their body language and take note of their actions. Patience is also important when betting. This is not a jackpot type of game but rather a game capable of growing your investments over a longer period.

No need to bluff in casino Teen Patti

When playing the casino version of Teen Patti to win real money, you play games against a dealer, instantly entering into the “Show” part of the game. Since there are no other players involved, there is no need to bluff here. All you need to do is beat the dealer’s hand!

Fold bad hands

Good poker players know when to fold and will do so often. There is no shame in waiting for a good hand, so if you are playing Seen and don’t feel happy with your Teen Patti hands, fold them. Just remember that other players will take note of what you are doing, so mix up the type of hands you play to keep them guessing your next move.

Practice for free

There are plenty of casinos in India that let you practice your Teen Patti skills for free. Playing for free lets you get a feel for how the game works, and you can practice various game strategies or betting amounts to find what feels right for you.

Best Teen Patti Bonus

One of the perks of playing Teen Patti at top Indian online platforms is that you can enhance your gameplay with a bonus.

Casino bonuses range from extra bonus money to play with to cashbacks, free spins, tournaments, and more. It is up to each casino to offer bonuses, and it’s up to you to pick the one you feel will benefit you the most.

For Teen Patti bonus offers, deposit bonuses, and cashback offers are the best. These bonuses can either give you more money to play with or refund you a bit of money if you happen to get a bit unlucky at the tables.

Always make sure that gameplay on the Teen Patti game is included in the wagering contributions of the bonus. Learn more about what this means in our guide on casino bonuses.

Playing Teen Patti against others or a live casino dealer has its differences. In casino Teen Patti, you play directly against a live casino dealer. There are no other players to compete against. Social Teen Patti sees you join a table of several players who all battle it out to be the last one standing.

Other Teen Patti Variations

The foundation of the game is poker, which means that there are several ways players can adjust the game to create variations.

When you play Flush with other players, such as friends or family, it’s common to agree on the variation and house rules before dealing the cards.

Out of the wide range of Teen Patti variations available, these are some of the most popular.

Muflis

Muflis is somewhat of a reversed version of regular Indian Poker. The hand sequences are the same, but here, the terms state that it’s the lowest-ranking hand that wins, not the highest.

AK47

It sounds like a weapon, but it is actually a hint to the game’s “card bonus” conditions. This version of 3Patti is played with all A’s, K’s, 4’s, and 7’s being Joker cards. A joker card, or wild card, can substitute for any other card required to create a sequence.

Best of Four

The Best of Four variation of the game is played using the standard Teenpatthi terms, except for the number of cards on your hand. You’ll receive four cards instead of three, but you’ll still create a sequence consisting of three cards.

Joker Hunt

This is one of the Patti variations closest to poker, thanks to the possibility of discarding cards.

Once players have received their three cards, a set number of cards are shown face up. Players can choose to discard one of their own in exchange for a revealed card.

Low Wild & High Wild

Here, the lowest ranking card in the hand will turn into a wild (joker). The wild card can be used as any other card or suit to create a well-ranking hand.

High Wild works in the same way as Low Wild, but here, it’s the player’s highest-ranking card that turns into a wild instead of the other way around.

Two-lowest Wild

Like the Low Wild variation, Two-lowest Wild is played with four-card hands, where the two lowest-ranking cards are both counted as wild.

A 3-card hand will still have to be made, but here, the players have two wilds to use, creating more opportunities.

Bust Card Draw

In Bust Card Draw, one additional step is added to the card dealing process. Once all players have received their cards, the dealer draws a “sudden death” card. Any player who has this card on their hand will have to fold their hand automatically.

Wild Draw

Similarly to Bust Card Draw, Wild Draw utilises the action of an additionally drawn card. Here, the rank of the drawn card will count as wild, and any player with that ranked card on their hand will, therefore, be able to use that card as a wild.

Hukum

In Hukum, all players are dealt two normal cards and one joker card. The joker card will substitute for any card necessary in order to make a hand.

If there are no possible hand combinations, even with the joker card, the card will count as a High Card.

Teen Patti FAQ

To play Teen Patti with real money you want to sign up to an online casino. You want to create a casino account, make a real money deposit, open a 3 Patti game, and place your Ante.

The rules of Teen Patti are simple: be the last person standing or the player with the best hand. Players are dealt three face down cards and then choose whether to play the hand without looking at the cards or by looking. The betting round commences where players place bets until only two players remain. The game round is over when cards are revealed in a “show” or one of the two finalists folds their hand.

To play Teen Patti, you need a regular 52-card deck of playing cards and at least three players. If playing online, you can download a Teen Patti app or play the game at a licensed online casino site.

The best-ranked casino is Casino Days. It accepts UPI, is safe, and gives you fast withdrawals.
